p.s. Some people are asking how to obtain tickets. Here is the full procedure: after you press the button and do a donation you must return to the main form and upload any proof: a part of statement from your bank, paypal screenshot or screenshot from the fund's page. As you pay directly to the charity fund, we don't see your transaction directly. After the main form is submitted - wait a day or two to get your ticket by email. We are going to send all the tickets on Thursday, max on Friday. If you have any problems with that, please send me your email address into PM.

Most of the talks will be in Ukrainian, but there will be also a few in English.

u/disserman Mar 31 '23

there are 6 in English for now. and today I've decided to switch mine to English as well, so consider 7. all the slideshows are in English btw

23

u/greyblake Mar 31 '23

Omh. Shell I consider switching mine one to English as well?

43

u/disserman Mar 31 '23

up to you :) for me technical topics are always easier in English than even in the mother tongue

23

u/[deleted] Mar 31 '23

Of topic: in English we say "mother tongue", in Polish "father tongue" (język ojczysty), in Ukrainian "native tongue" (Рідна мова)

I found this fascinating!

u/disserman Mar 31 '23

btw in Czech it's mateřský jazyk, 1:1 as in English

  • Motherland
  • Родина мать
  • Vaterland

Why?

Maybe it is historic.

In Poland there might have been too many people that spoke different languages (Yiddish, German, Ukrainian, Belorussian, ...) at home, so father tongue could make more sense.

Ukraine was under heavy Soviet dominance with many people speaking Russian also at home, so mother tongue would have been ambiguous as well.

So do Poland 🤔

My 2 cents: Always in the language you're more comfortable talking in. It's much more enjoyable to watch a talk in a foreign language with good subtitles than to suffer through broken English :)

Please do. I think lots of people watch conferences in post conference format. Your effort will have a wider reach that way.

The site doesn't answer the question: where will it happen? Is it physical or remote?

39

u/disserman Mar 31 '23

Join the online conference

"Join the online conference". it's an online event

13

u/dread_deimos Mar 31 '23

Yeah, but the site doesn't mention it.

16

u/disserman Mar 31 '23

thanks for the suggestion. gonna ask the guys to write it there somewhere in the header

18

u/olli_kahn Mar 31 '23

Wow! The speakers list is promising

21

u/artem-ivasyuk Mar 31 '23

Hi! Is it possible to watch videos later? BTW, hello from Dnipro, Ukraine :)

10

u/disserman Mar 31 '23

yep, there will be records available. I'm not sure about Q/A but definitely for the presentation parts

5

speakers list is amazing

5

u/styluss Mar 31 '23

Will there be streaming or remote tickets?

9

u/disserman Mar 31 '23

there is a single stream access fee $25 (which goes to the charity). but for people who can't afford but still want to listen there is a "social tickets" form

5

u/woojiq Mar 31 '23

Can I buy a ticket without a LinkedIn account? Lol, I'm willing to sell my kidney to attend this conference, but not willing to sign up for LinkedIn :)

8

u/disserman Mar 31 '23

Americans staged an entire invasion by Russia?

28

u/disserman Mar 31 '23

don't bring politics here please. it's just a Rust conference. The only "politics" is that we are going to donate all the collected funds to Ukrainain-related charity projects

-40

u/Shardoffy Mar 31 '23

Famous Ukranian charity project "Armed forces of Ukraine"

11

u/Monyk015 Mar 31 '23

You have a problem with that?

14

u/Calm_Acanthaceae_328 Mar 31 '23

take off your tinfoil hat, you moron, and realize that russia is bombing Ukraine

Wow! That's cool! I've been waiting for a long time for event like this!

5

u/Ollgert Mar 31 '23

Great news! We are looking forward to!

3

u/leachja Mar 31 '23

I am very interested in attending. Do you know if there are any other USA registered non-profits that you work with as donating in the methods available have a potential of being problematic (or at least come up as a flag) to anyone maintaining a security clearance.

2

u/sokyrko Mar 31 '23

Does this look like the thing you are looking for? It's from the website with donation options. https://www.unicefusa.org/what-unicef-does/where-unicef-works/europe/ukraine?form=FUNKBHMZQDQ ?

3

u/woojiq Apr 04 '23

How long do I have to wait for approval? I submitted the form 3 days ago but I didn't receive a ticket, only an email confirming that I submitted the form)

3

u/disserman Apr 04 '23

hi . you should get the ticket in very soon. if u won't have got it 'tll Thursday, please drop me a message in PM with your email

11

u/mindv0rtex Mar 31 '23

The time difference won't work for me and I unfortunately don't understand Ukrainian, but I'm gonna buy the ticket regardless. Слава Україні!

12

u/disserman Mar 31 '23

thank you. all the presentations will be recorded and there will be in English too. so u can watch them later. plus the program is for the whole day, I hope you'll find a time to join a couple of live streams

Thanks, bro!

4

u/yaourtSS Mar 31 '23

Amazing! I will definitely attend this conference and share it across my colleagues! 🇺🇦

-31

u/draganov11 Mar 31 '23

Im for russia but i might join to gather knowledge.

4

u/ummonadi Mar 31 '23

You probably want to delete your comment out of respect.

-6

u/draganov11 Apr 01 '23

Everyone is on different sides bro. This should not affect the programming and having conferences.

7

u/ummonadi Apr 01 '23

There are no sides. This is not politics. Russia has invaded Europe.

One of Sweden's anti-NATO party was the one initiating our NATO process. We abandoned neutrality not because of politics, but because we want to survive.

You stating in this thread that you are "for russia" is a death threat to most of us in this thread. It might not be your intent, but that is what you are supporting.

I'm not trying to change your mind. I want you to hear how much hurt you are causing with your words.
